William “Sarge” Stevens
William “Sarge” Stevens, 87, of Hollidaysburg, PA and formerly of Osceola Mills, PA died on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, PA.
Born on August 14, 1927 in Osceola Mills, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert B. Stevens & Nellie Mae (Sando) Stevens Nichols.
Mr. Stevens was a member of the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the U.S. Army as a Sargent and he retired from Con-Rail.
He was a member of the VFW, #5020, Osceola Mills, PA; American Legion #313, Osceola Mills, PA; Columbia Fire Co., Osceola Mills, PA; Fire Police; F & A M #515 Osceola Mills, PA; Altoona Consistory, Altoona, PA; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, PA; Clearfield Royal Arch Chapter #228; Moshannon Council #56, R. & S. M. M.; Moshannon Commandery #74, K.T; Osceola Mills Honor Guard; Clearfield County Volunteer Firemen’s Association; Disabled American Veterans; St. Anthony Society, Osceola Mills, PA; Osceola Mills Citizen of the year in 2006; and Outstanding Community Worker of the year for Osceola Mills Boro in 1994. His hobbies were Community and Cemetery work.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by: his step-father, Frank Nichols; two sisters, Viola Smith and Lena Mae Johnson; and two brothers, Herbert Stevens and George Stevens.
He is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Kassab & her husband Gabe of Pittsburgh, PA and Mary Weaver & her husband Jerry of Clymer, NY.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Robert Bruinooge & Rev. Dr. Mary Jo Bruinooge officiating. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, PA and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the church.
Masonic Memorial Services will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Graveside Military Honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
