Esther M. Smith
Esther M. Smith, 97, of Philipsburg, PA and formerly of Osceola Mills, PA, died on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Windy Hill Village, PSL, in Philipsburg, PA.
Born on May 4, 1926, in Osceola Mills, PA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin & Elizabeth (Chronister) Hughes. She married John E. Smith on October 29, 1947 at Centre United Mthodist Church, in Osceola Mills, PA; he preceded her in death on May 11, 1973.
Esther was a member of Centre United Methodist Church in RD Osceola Mills, PA where she was the custodian and treasurer for sixty years.
She was retired from Charles Navasky & Co. of Philipsburg, PA. And she was a 1944 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward R. Smith; three sisters, Mary Jane Brice, Loretta Carson and Imogene Meyer; and two brothers, Raymond Hughes and Edward Hughes.
Esther is survived by a daughter, Ressa J. Owens & her husband Stanley of Beech Creek, PA; two sons, Benjamin G. Smith & his wife Michelle of Osceola Mills, PA and John M. Smith & his wife Cathy of Osceola Mills, PA; six grandchildren; and ten great grand-children.
A graveside funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, with Rev. Roy Hampton officiating. Burial was at Centre Cemetery in RD Osceola Mills, PA.
