Gaynelle I. “Nellie” Shimmel
Gaynelle I. “Nellie” Shimmel, 91, of Tyrone, PA, formerly of Osceola Mills, PA, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at The Preserve at Cedarwood in Tyrone, PA.
Born on May 11, 1933, Gaynelle was the daughter of the late Kenneth Johnson & Midred (Yoder) Johnson. She married Stanley Richard Shimmel in Mahaffey, PA on May 12, 1951. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2023.
Gaynelle was a member of the Brisbin Baptist Church. She was a Homemaker.
She had graduated from the former Mahaffey High School.
Gaynelle was the former owner and operator of the Macrame Shop known as Nellie’s Knot Hut in Ashland.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gaynelle was preceded in death by a son, Stanley I. Shimmel; a sister, Alice Gillingham; and two brothers, Irvin Johnson and Kenneth Johnson.
Gaynelle is survived by a daughter, Kathy Eckberg & her husband Carl A. of Treasure Lake, PA; a son, David R. Shimmel & his wife Roberta of Houtzdale, PA; two sisters, Virginia Robinson of Oil City, PA and Carol Kuhn of Oil City, PA; four grandchildren, Timothy, Allison, Shawn, and Amy; and six great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date.
There will be no visitation.
Burial will be at Reidy Cemetery in Wallaceton, PA.
