Effie M. Sankey
Effie M. Sankey, 100, of Osceola Mills, PA passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Irvin & Sarah (Woods) Cowfer, born on January 4, 1913 in Osceola Mills, PA. She married Joseph E. Sankey, Sr. on December 13, 1930 in Osceola Mills, PA. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1990.
Mrs. Sankey was a member of the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church where she was a former member of the board of Deacons and was in charge of the Acolytes. She was also a member of the Center Hill Grange #885 in Morrisdale, PA and she was the originator of the Vespers Services at the start of the 4th of July week celebration in Osceola Mills.
She was retired from the former Widmanns Discount Store in Philipsburg, PA, where she was the Manager.
In addition to her Parents and Husband, she was preceded in death by: four daughters, Nancy Brolin, Peggy Owens & two infant daughters; two sisters, Verna Wick & Flossie Crain; one brother, David Cowfer; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Lydia Sankey; and three sons-in-law, Clyde “Bud” Mignot, Richard Williams, and Gary Marty.
Mrs. Sankey is survived by: five daughters, Betty Ann Haney & her husband Richard of Drifting, PA, Beverly Mignot of Allport, PA, Judith Bires & her husband Michael of R.D. Philipsburg, PA, Bonnie Marty & her companion Frank Brennamen of Lewistown, PA, and Kathy Olson & her husband David of Clearfield, PA; four sons, Joseph E. Sankey, Jr. of Osceola Mills, PA, Daniel I. Sankey of Houtzdale, PA, John W. Sankey & his wife Peggy of (Chester Hill) Philipsburg, PA, and Fred H. Sankey & his wife Jamie of Greenville, PA; Lex Brolin son-in-law; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Bruinooge & Rev. Dr. Mary Jo Bruinooge officiating. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, PA and on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the church.
