Rev. J. Harry McElroy
Rev. Mr. J. Harry McElroy, 90, of Harrisonburg, VA and formerly of Osceola Mills, PA died on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Sunny Side Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, VA.
Born on October 23, 1933 in Osceola Mills, PA, he was the son of the late James Albert and Lena M. (Boyer) McElroy. He married Betty D. Pfleegor on August 22, 1959 in Milton, PA; she survives at home.
Rev. McElroy was a member of Lehigh Presbytery. He was a Clergyman and served as Pastor of Elmhurst 1st Presbyterian Church in Elmhurst, PA for thirty-five and a half years and Montgomery Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, PA for four years. After retirement he was the interim Pastor of the Summit Hill Presbyterian Church in Summit Hill, PA for four years and also of the Bangor Presbyterian Church.
He graduated in 1951 from the former Osceola Mills High School, Penn State University and earned his Bachelor of Theology Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ.
He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran.
Rev. McElroy was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Scranton Stamp Club, and also enjoyed reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rev. Dean Boyer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rudis & her husband Robert of Berwick, Maine; a son James Richard McElroy & his wife Rebecca of Charlotte, NC; a sister Elsie Lieu Madi of Hamilton, NJ; a brother David A. McElroy & his wife Christine of Rockville, MD; six grandchildren, Jarrod Rudis, Elizabeth Rudis, Victoria Teller & her husband Kyle, Ian Rudis, Claudia McElroy & Riley McElroy; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Teller and Ezekial Teller.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mr. Daryl Madi, a nephew of the deceased, will officiate. Burial will be at Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the church.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
