George Roehrig Hunsinger
George Roehrig Hunsinger, age 92, of Clearfield, peacefully entered Heaven’s Gate on August 28th at the DuBois Nursing Home. He was born in Centerville, Iowa to George and Lyda (Milbrandt) Hunsinger. George proudly served in the U.S. Army for 4 years
as a medic during the Korean War era and remained extremely patriotic his entire life. He graduated from The University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. George then spent over 40 years working in the Restaurant and Food Service Industries. In 1979 he became an Operating Partner for the KFC in downtown Clearfield. Following that he became the owner of The Golden Yoke restaurant in Luthersburg, before accepting a position as manager of the Dutch Pantry in Clearfield. He had a passion for reading and spent many hours at The Shaw Public Library, where he at one time served as a board member. People who knew him will more than likely have a memory of him holding a book in his hand. His hobbies included hand carving wooden fishing lures and creating wood burning art. Those who knew George would agree he was a humble man. He was gifted with the ability to connect with people and make them feel special and accepted for who God created them to be. The overwhelming amount of cards, letters, and visits he received made him aware of how his wisdom and encouraging nature touched and changed many of their lives. He is survived by his wife Julie ( Peters) Hunsinger of 44 years. His children Mark ( Lisa ) Johnson, Heidi ( Jeff ) O’Brien, Amanda ( Gert ) Wilgenburg. (6) grandchildren, (1) great grandchild and a brother John Hunsinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Thadd Johnson and granddaughter Katie O’Brien.
A memorial service will be held on September 12th officiated by Pastor Brenda Liberatori at The Lighthouse Church located at 7993 Drane Highway , West Decatur , PA 16878. Visiting hours from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers family suggests donations be made to : Veterans Appreciation Emergency Fund Veterans Affairs 212 E. Locust St., Suite 104, Clearfield, PA 16830
The Osceola Mills Honor Guard will provide military honors.
