William E. “Mope” Hess
William E. “Mope” Hess, 97, of Osceola Mills, PA died on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA.
Born on February 21, 1926, in Osceola Mills, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph F. & Della M. (Dunlap) Hess. He married Cecelia Beres in 1965, in Osceola Mills; she preceded him in death in 1984. He then married Virginia Pollick in 1986 in Osceola Mills; she preceded him in death in 2015.
William was a member of the Osceola Mills United Methodist Church.
He was a Navy Venteran of WWII and an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. While in the Navy he served aboard the U.S.S. Kidd.
William was a member of VFW Post 5020, the American Legion and the Columbia Fire Company, all in Osceola Mills, PA.
He was retired from SCI Rockview as a Corrections Officer and was a 1944 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.
William’s hobbies included fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by both wives and a brother. Ralph J. Hess & his wife Jean.
William is survived by two daughters, Carole A. Hite & her husband Thomas of Oscceola Mills, PA and Greta M. Mills & her husband Robert of Osceola Mills, PA; a step-son, Gregory Kline & his wife Leanna of Osceola Mills, PA; six grandchildren, Clinton B. Mills, PharmD & his wife Maureen, Alan R. Mills, Cecelia Hite, Nolan T. Hite, Logan Kline and Gwyneth Kline; Mope’s lifelong friend, Donald Stevens; good friends and neighbors, Andy Summerson & Patrick Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 9th, at Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 701 Lingle St., Osceola Mills, PA; with Pastor Gloria Montgomery officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
