Merle D. Hayward
December 13, 1934 – October 7, 2025
Merle D. Hayward, 90, of Houtzdale, PA, peacefully entered the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2025, at Meadow View Nursing Center, following a courageous battle with dementia.
Born December 13, 1934, in Parsonville, PA, Merle was the son of the late Russell James and Eliza Jane (Wilkes) Hayward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Hayward; his son, Scott Hayward; and his granddaughter, Daisy Mae Hayward — all whom he now rejoices with in Heaven.
Merle was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 68 years, Sandra S. (Cannon) Hayward, with whom he shared a life rooted in love, service, and unwavering faith. He was cherished father to Randy (Linda) Hayward of Friedens, PA, and Beth (Mike) Krupa of Florence, SC. He was a proud grandfather of six and a loving great-grandfather of eight. He is also surviving by two loving sisters, Janice Thompson and Myrna Kline.
Merle honorably served his country in the U.S Army from 1957 to1963. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who operated heavy equipment for over 65 years. He took great pride in his work and he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.
Merle had a deep love for his family, community, and church, faithfully serving in many Capacities including F & A M # 515, Osceola Mills and lifetime member of Houtzdale Ramey EMS. His strength, generous spirit, and steadfast devotion to God left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Merle’s life was a living testimony of God’s grace, love, and faithfulness. He will be remembered not only for his dedication and gentle heart but also for the spiritual legacy he leaves behind—a life lived with purpose and unwavering faith.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Brisbin First Church of God, Brisbin, PA, with Pastor Dale Stoops officiating. A time of fellowship and a meal will follow as we Remember and honor Merle’s life.
