Roger Hughes Gallaher
Roger Hughes Gallaher, 74, of Morgan Run peacefully passed at Mountain Laurel Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with his wife and family by his side as he went with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February, 18, 2025.
Born at home, third, of four children, to David Daniel, Sr. and Betty Jane (McCollough) Gallaher on July 24, 1950 in Clearfield, PA. Roger was a 1968 graduate of Clearfield High School and wed the love of his life, Gloria Bell Maines, on October 26th the same year. They were blessed with a loving and prosperous marriage of 56 years.
Missouri then Alabama were on the horizon for the newlyweds when Roger worked for Harbison-Walker Refractories then they returned to Clearfield, and he worked at Piper Aircraft until the PA manufacturing plant closed in 1984. At that point he labored as a Kiln Operator at Glen-Gery Brick of Clearfield until the location ceased production. In 2015 Roger retired from the Woodland Walmart Distribution Center #6027.
The friendliest man we have ever known “never met a stranger he didn’t like” and was a loyal friend to countless individuals. Roger was a member of the Spring Valley United Methodist Church for many years before falling ill. Socializing gave him great pleasure so it is no surprise he was a mentor to several people over the years as well as a member of a number of Fraternal organizations. Roger was a Past Master of the longstanding Clearfield Masonic Lodge #314 and graciously received his 50 year pin in 2021. More recently he was a member of Curwensville Masonic Nobel Lodge #480. He would have commemorated 50 years as a member of the Clearfield Fraternal Order of Eagles this year. Other organizations Roger enjoyed were the Loyal Order of the Moose, Old Town Sportsmen’s Association, Inc., the Fraternal Order of Police Bald Eagle Lodge #51, the Clearfield Order Sons of Italy, and he was a social member of the Clearfield F. Michael Sicks Post No 1785 Home Association of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Among family and friends and in the community Roger is remembered as strong in his Faith, an avid blood and platelet donor as well as a man who never hesitated to help anyone in need.
Roger was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who instilled his love of the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, especially for hunting trips, reading, multiple genres of music, and quality time with his grandchildren watching them participate in various sports and activities throughout the years.
To his wife, he was loving, caring, and steadfast in honoring his wedding vows. To his children he established values, traditions, and a strong work ethic. His family will remember him as a wonderful, BIG man with a BIG heart. Our days were filled with laughter and music because of his sense of humor, jokes, storytelling, wit, and talented singing voice. In his younger years, he was a popular dance partner too.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, as well as his daughter, Christine Henkes, wife of Ian, and their children, Marcus, Evan, and Annie, and his son, Adam Gallaher, and his sons Adam II and his wife, Kristen and David and his wife, Kaycie, and his daughter, Olivia. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Carolyn Gallaher, brother Edward Gallaher and his wife, Margaret, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.
Preceded in death by his parents, David Daniel, Sr. and Betty Jane (McCollough) Gallaher, brother, David Daniel, Gallaher, Jr., sister, Gloria Jean Materkowski, and niece, Jamie Lynn Materkowski. May we feel comforted knowing Roger has joined those who have gone before him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a blood donation at a location of your choice, or make a monetary donation to the Red Cross, a non-profit that supports Alzheimer research, or the Old Town Sportsman’s of Clearfield.
We look forward to gathering with family and friends on Friday, March 14th.
