William L. “Bill” Baughman
William L. “Bill” Baughman, 86, of Altoona, and formerly of Osceola Mills and Lake City, Florida, died Monday, February 26, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on November 14, 1937, in Osceola Mills, a son of the late Stanley and Margaret K. “Peg” (Cowfer) Baughman.
Bill was a 1955 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School. After graduation, Bill enlisted and served with the US Marine Corps.
Following his discharge from the Marines, Bill began his working career working in the administrative office at SCI Rockview. He then accepted a customer service position at County National (CNB) Bank in Osceola Mills. After a brief period with CNB, he accepted a position as a loan officer with National Bank of the Commonwealth at their Houtzdale branch office. Now known as 1st. Commonwealth Bank, Bill spent most of his working career at the Houtzdale office and he was the office branch manager at the time of his retirement.
Bill was married on April 24, 1965, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Osceola Mills, to the former Nancy L. Holden, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Julie A. Ishler and her husband, Ken, of Lake City, Florida and Amy L. Baughman, of Altoona; two sons, W. Christopher Baughman and his wife, Dona, of Altoona and Douglas J. Baughman and his wife, Sherry, of Philipsburg; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Gary Cartwright, of Missouri City, Texas; and numerous other extended family members.
Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Cartwright and Mary Kas Flood and her husband, Robert, in addition to his parents.
Bill was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona; a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moshannon Valley Council #2250 and a member and past officer of the VFW Post #5020, both of Osceola Mills. Prior to relocating to Florida during his retirement, Bill was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills and spent a number of his retirement years doing outdoor and maintenance work for the church.
Among his favorite pastimes, Bill loved playing tennis; he enjoyed small game and deer hunting; watching high school and collegiate wrestling; and over the years, he enjoyed working on numerous “DIY” projects on his family’s home in Osceola Mills. He also enjoyed the smaller everyday chores such as cutting the grass, tending to his garden and always volunteering to wash dishes following a meal. Family was important to Bill and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and other family members at their frequent family meals and gatherings.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10:30 am, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11 th. Street, Altoona, Pa, with Fr. Frank A. Scornaienchi, T.O.R., celebrant.
The Rosary will be recited at church on Monday immediately prior to Mass.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
