Born August 4, 1942, Vern lived a life defined by hard work, deep devotion to his family, and an enduring appreciation for the simple joys of life. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

On March 31, 1962, Vern married the love of his life, Sharon Hughes. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another.

Vern is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Kim Bahnsen and her husband, Robert Bahnsen, Tracy Stout and her husband, Robert Stout, and Garret Robinson and his wife, Adrianne Robinson. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Erin Robinson, Tyler Gayan, Robert Bahnsen, Ethan Robinson, and Parker Robinson, each of whom brought him tremendous joy. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Elaine Ropach.

Vern’s career in retail spanned six decades, beginning in the 1960s at W.T. Grant Co. and concluding with his retirement from True Value in 2005. Over the course of his long career, he received many awards and was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and commitment to the people he worked with and served.

He was also an active member of Curwensville Alliance Church for more than 40 years, where he faithfully served as a trustee. His church community was an important part of his life, and his service reflected his steady faith and commitment to others.

Retirement brought Vern 22 wonderful years filled with the things he loved most. He treasured time with his family, enjoyed traveling, and found great happiness fishing and spending time at his cottage in Canada. In later years, he also made many cherished memories at the family’s lake house in Pennsylvania.

Vern will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his quiet strength, his faith, and the warmth and stability he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the many memories they will carry with them always.
