Shirley L. Murphy
Shirley L. Murphy, 71, of Osceola Mills, PA, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born on September 16, 1953 in Philipsburg, PA, Shirley was the daughter of the late James H. Murphy & Elizabeth Marie “Betty” (Vail) Murphy.
Shirley was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills, PA.
She retired from Penn State University.
Shirley was a 1971 graduate from P.O. High School.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Prestash.
She is survived by three daughters, Meredith Coleman & her companion Carl Wagner of Osceola Mills, PA, Natalie Coleman wife of Jill Moore of York, PA, and Andrea Rafferty & her husband Dennis of Osceola Mills, PA; two grandchildren, Everett James Moore-Coleman and Warren Anthony Rafferty; and her longtime companion, Rick Sankey.
She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her beloved grandsons, Everett and Warren, and her cherished nephew, Dennis. Some of her happiest moments were spent watching Warren play baseball, cheering proudly from the stands. She also had a deep love for nature and could often be found birdwatching, finding peace and joy in the simple beauty of the outdoors.
A true fan at heart, she never missed a chance to root for her favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions. Whether it was a Saturday afternoon or a Sunday game day, she cheered with passion and loyalty.
She enjoyed shopping and sharing laughs with friends and family. Her involvement in the community was a meaningful part of her life. She was an active member of the Morann Citizens Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Freeburg Social Club, the Elks, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Her strong sense of civic duty was reflected in her many years of service as the Judge of Election for the 75 Rush Township West district. She took pride in supporting the democratic process and serving her community with dedication and integrity.
She will be remembered for her loving heart, her fierce loyalty to those she loved, and the many lives she touched with her kindness. Her memory will be forever cherished by all who had the honor of knowing her.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC at 701 Lingle St. Osceola Mills, PA 16666. Deacon Dennis Prestash will officiate.
Burial will be at Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 23 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
