Robert E. McGonigal (Pete)

January 28th, 1941 ~ April 29, 2026

Pete passed away peacefully at home per his wishes, Pete was born on January 28th, 1941 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Jerome T. and Rachel (Evans) McGonigal and grew up in Pottersdale. Pete graduated from Cooper Township High School, Class of 1959. Pete had worked for New York Central, Conrail, Norfolk Southern railroad as a dispatcher for a combined 33 years before retiring. On August 13th, 1988 he married Janet who he was married to for 32 years upon her death on April 11th, 2020. Pete enjoyed spending time with family, attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, hunting, fishing and taking rides to Pottersdale and having Breakfast with his railroad friends. Pete is survived by his first wife Phyllis Askey mother of his two sons Robert (Bob) McGonigal of Clearfield, Fredrick (Fred) McGonigal of Karthaus, Stepdaughters Beth (Dan) Phillis of West Mayfield and Diana (Nick) Quintana of Midland. Pete is survived by his grandchildren Amber (Spencer) Wilson of Grassflat, Zachary (Courtney) McGonigal of Houtzdale, Taylor (Trey) Siegfried of Houtzdale, Devin (Amber) Phillis of Beaver Falls and Keelan (Kirsten) Phillis of Beaver Falls. Pete is also survived by his great grandchildren Easton Huber of Grassflat, Keegan Siegfried of Houtzdale, Wyatt Wilson of Somerset, Colton Wilson of Central City, Riley Phillis of Beaver Falls and Scarlett Phillis of Beaver Falls. Pete is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom (Jigs) McGonigal and his wife Jan.

Pete was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Club

Pete could always be counted on to support local raffles and community events and never passing up the chance to lend a hand. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers & Pirates and was a fan of NASCAR.

Honoring Pete’s wishes there will be no public visitations. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC of Osceola Mills, PA oversees the arrangements.

The family would like to thank Lacey at 365 Hospice for the care she provided Pete during his illness and the support she gave to his family.
