Dolores J. “Dolly” Greenawalt

Dolores J. “Dolly” Greenawalt, 92, of Tyrone, was called peacefully to her eternal home on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital at Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by her adoring family.

Born September 3, 1933, in Tyrone, PA, she was the eldest daughter of the late Laura Jane (Stewart) and Irvin Greenawalt.

Dolly proudly served as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1951-55; where much of her service was done in the Pentagon. She later worked as a receptionist at Geisinger Medical Center in Phillipsburg and Tyrone where she eventually retired.

In February 1955, she married the late Charles E. Moore, with whom she shared 4 children.

Dolly cherished her family above all else. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and loving dog-mom to Snuggles, her faithful little companion who was always by her side.

She made countless memories with those closest to her; even welcoming her dear friend and caretaker, Mary Margaret Zang, into her family.

She loved to go dancing and enjoyed some of the best years of her life alongside her sweetheart and devoted dance partner, Daniel “Boone” Thomas, who preceded her in death. We find comfort in imagining the two of them reunited, dancing together once again.

Dolly was always up for a good time and never wanted to miss out on the fun. Whether it was dancing, celebrating, or simply being together, she wanted to be right in the middle of it all. But at the heart of everything was her family. Home was wherever they were, and in the end, surrounded by the people who meant the most to her, she found the peace of being home.

She was a lifelong member of the Tyrone community and attended the Wesley United Methodist Church in Tyrone, PA.

Dolly is survived by her children Cindy Smith and her husband Rock of Sandy Ridge; Chuck Moore and his wife MarySue of Sneads Ferry, NC; John Moore and his wife Valerie of Sandy Ridge; and Mark Moore and his wife Shellie of Franklin, PA. To her children she was lovingly known as “Mamma.”

She was affectionately called “Gram” by her grandchildren; Rian Bender and Nate Lucas, Rock Smith II, Justin Moore and Sam Bui, Amanda and Ryan Fanning, Kaleigh and Matt Gustafson, Kourtnie and Ryan White, Kassity and Jordan Moore, Colton Moore, and her great-grandchildren; Ky, Kinley, Jake, Max, Sydney, Hunter, Rhys, Emmalyn, Arly, and Soren.

She is also survived by her two sisters, who were very dear to her, MaryAnn Kurtz of Tyrone and Linda Greenawalt of Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved as deeply as her own children.

Dolly’s life will be remembered through the decades of love and laughter she shared; that love will continue to live on through the family she held so dear.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, Osceola Mills, PA. Pastor Chris Priester will officiate. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to funeral time at the funeral home.
