My wife, Michelle Fetcenko, is Joe’s niece. I met Joe almost 30 years ago. We would have long talks that almost always centered around hunting and rifles as I shoot too, he would tease me about my more modern rifles but always loved my old school bolt guns. We took our trailer up to his cabin once and camped for a few days, it was a lot of fun memories. He opened his house to me to stay a few days while I attended his moms funeral, but he was really amazed and maybe a bit confused when I showed up on my motorcycle, I think Joe didn’t really know what to make of me sometimes. He and Alice were always giving, and they always treated us as if we were their children. Joe always asked about my job and how I was getting along and sometimes I would ask him about how he handled various types of people at work, he always had answers about that! Joe asked me a few times to come up hunting and it never was a good time work wise, I regret that as I know I would have had a great time. Joe reminded me of my dad who is now 90, same time period growing up, same rural upbringing, small school, also served in Korea, same type of skilled work, same outlook and temperment. I always looked forward to seeing him and now I will miss him, he was a cool guy.
