Barb and family~ Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Billy was one of the hardest working men I ever met iny life. He would always speak so proudly of his children and grandchildren. It was obvious that his family was his world.

Neil Young sang searching for a heart of gold. He should have checked out Uncle Joey first. He would have discovered the largest one I ever knew. A good and kind, caring soul beneath the rough and tough exterior. I shall miss our long conversations about family, friends and old shipmates. Rest in peace, old friend. My sympathies to Barb and the entire family.

It is with my heart ladened with sadness upon here the news of Bill’s untimely passing. I was a shipmate of “Uncle Joey” as we called him on the USS Nantahala. We were in the Radar gang together for years. I considered Bill, my mentor, my friend, and my brother. I have lost a true wonderful generous fun loving brother. There was nothing that Bill would not do for anyone. He had a rough exterior but a heart of gold. So caring and so protective. A part of me is not complete knowing that I will not hear his voice and to speak with him. He is in heaven now. I am sure that he is ordering angels around and they are listening to him. He had that way about him. I will always remember Uncle Joey and how much he meant to me in the service and throughout the years. I salute you my dear friend. May his soul rest in peace in heaven. I will miss you
