Florence A. Matia
Florence A. Matia, 91, of Philipsburg, PA and formerly of Osceola Mills, PA passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Windy Hill Village P.S.L in Philipsburg, PA.
She was the daughter of the late Peter & Kathryn (Swincicki) Petrosky, born on September 30, 1921 in Osceola Mills, PA. She married Adam T. Matia on September 27, 1943 in Osceola Mills, PA. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2000.
Mrs. Matia was of the Catholic Faith. She was a secretary & president for the BPW of Houtzdale, PA and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the American Legion Gorman Peters Post 313.
Florence & her husband Adam were the owners of the former Airport Tavern in Osceola Mills for 39 years. She had also worked for the former A & P grocery store in Philipsburg, PA. Her favorite hobbies were knitting & cooking.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Matia was preceded in death by: three sisters, Pearle Porter, Irene Demchak and Victoria Williams; and five brothers, Charles, Stanley, Ralph, Joseph, & Chester Petrosky.
She is survived by: a son, Thomas L. Matia & his fiancee Sally Simler of Osceola Mills, PA; two granddaughters, Ashley Tekely & her husband Stephen of DuBois, PA and Liza Miller & her husband Kyle of Brisbin, PA; and two great-granddaughters, Tessa and Emery Tekely.
The funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, PA, with Deacon Dennis Socash officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 12, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.
