Oscar D. “Sonny” Kephart
Oscar D. “Sonny” Kephart, 83, of Mountain Top, PA and formerly of Osceola Mills, PA died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Hampton House Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Born on July 15, 1938 in Philipsburg, PA he was the son of the late Oscar and Bethel (Kephart) Kephart Wilks.
He was of the United Methodist Faith.
Sonny was retired from Penn State University maintenance and was a 1956 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.
Sonny was an avid sports fan, the Chicago Bears and Penn State were among his favorites. He enjoyed country music and was a number one Elvis Presley fan. Sonny would never pass up a good card game. He also enjoyed traveling, local bands and dancing.
He was known by his trademark cowboy hat and walking his beloved Beagle Queenie. Everyone that knew him saw the love and pride he had for his five daughters. He was the best father and kept his children near to his heart.
We are so sad to lose the foundation of our family. Our peace of mind and relief are that he is with his loved ones and most of all his only son. This is not goodbye daddy, it is see you later.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: one brother, Larry M. “Bunny” Kephart, Sr.; one granddaughter, Haley Marie Golomb; one infant son, Jamie Lee Kephart; and a best friend, Joseph Franchino.
He is survived by: five daughters, Rebecca Vanderveer of Mountain Top, PA, Jeannie Russo & her husband Sal of Mountain Top, PA, Debbie Swan & her husband Jeff of Buffalo, NY, Carol Kephart of Mountain Top, PA and Melissa Jardine & her husband Tony of Kingston, PA; one sister, Jackie Conklin of Manville, NJ; ten grandchildren, Frank Brewer, Mathew Brewer, Shannon Brewer, Bryan Espinoza, Brandon Espinoza, Eric Antosh, Ronnie Golomb, Jenna Jardine, Blake Jardine and Elsie Jardine; and six great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC in Osceola Mills, PA: with Pastor Donald Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Sanborn Cemetery, (Sanborn) RD Houtzdale, PA.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.
