Edward G. Hughes
Edward G. Hughes, 86 of (Gearhartville) Philipsburg, PA died on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.
Born on May 1, 1936, in Philipsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Guy F. & Anna M. (Tatters) Hughes. He married Doloris M. Reams on March 31, 1956, at the Former St. Savior’s Episcopal Church in (Gearhartville) Philipsburg, PA; she survives at home.
He was known by many names: “Flash Eddie” for his love of photography and his large contribution of photos to both The Progress and The Philipsburg Journal, “Fast Eddie” for his constant on the go lifestyle as he was always at least 4 steps ahead of everyone. “Where’s Waldo” as he could always be spotted driving by in his car anywhere at any given time (he was once rumored to be spotted driving through Hawaii), and “Eddie Spaghetti” for his love of food, especially at every local festival he could get to.
He collected trains since childhood and always setup a train and village around the Christmas tree every year. Ed enjoyed woodworking and his specialty was windmills. He loved planting/tending to his garden and made sure to plant a potato every year on St. Patrick’s Day. His pride and joy was his immaculate lawn.
Ed was a big Penn State Nittany Lion fan as well as a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed watching their games.
He was a member of the Osceola Lodge #515 F. & A. M. and the Gearhartville Sportsmen’s Club.
Ed was a Retired Assistant Computer Design Engineer for Charles Navasky & Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Betty Jane Hughes.
Along with his wife, Ed is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. McGonigal & her husband Bryan of Winchester, VA; a son Alvin L. Hughes & his wife Judy of Philipsburg, PA; a sister, Carol Lykens of Philipsburg, PA; two grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor and Erin Brimmeier; and five great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 701 Lingle Street, Osceola Mills, PA. Pastor Noel Myers will officiate. Burial will be at Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg, PA.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
