Carole A. Hicks
Carole A. Hicks, 77, of Osceola Mills, PA, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Penn Highlands in Clearfield, PA.
Born on August 23, 1937 in Osceola Mills, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur & Elsie (Wertz) Webster. She married Edward L. Hicks on July 16, 1960 in Chicago, IL. He survives at home.
Mrs. Hicks was of Christian Faith and a retired RN having worked at the former Philipsburg State General Hospital; the Sloan Kettering Cancer Institution New York City in 1961; the Brooklyn Veterans Hospital from 1961 to 1962; the Hines Veterans Hospital in Chicago, IL from 1962 to 1964; the Resurrection Hospital in Chicago IL from 1966 to 1968; and the Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI from 1968 to 1972, where she coauthored a hospice program for terminally ill veterans to be cared for at home by their family (this was the first program of this type in the country). She also worked in the former Clearfield Hospital emergency room where she retired. After her retirement she continued to work for Dr. Larry Adams. She was a 1955 graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School, and a 1958 graduate of the Temple University School of Nursing as an RN. She received her trauma certification from John Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two sons, Douglas Arthur Hicks & his wife Sri A. Hicks of High Point, NC and Jonathan Drew Hicks & his wife Crystal O. Hicks of Cordova, TN; a brother, John A. Webster & his wife Linda C. Webster of Washington, GA; four grandchildren, Matthew B. Hicks, Shelby L. Hicks, Alexander S. Hicks and Ryan E. Hicks; and a cousin, Vanetta Webster Irwin.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Osceola Mills, PA, with Rev. Glen Eason officiating. Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills, PA.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.
