Enjoyed so much meeting Sam at the Zackey/Domblesky reunions held in Philipsburg several years ago.
Our condolences to Barbie and family.

Our dear friend Sam…so many memories. How you came unexpectedly in the summer of 2008 to help out when Matt was caring for his sick aunt out of state, and Ed was up North. You checked on me and mowed the lawn just because. (Never seeing & running over Bill’s ‘Wall of China’, guaranteed to be the ‘hardiest hedge ever’ every time you mowed.) Seeing you sitting up front in NLC Church surrounded by children like they were your grandchildren. The kids loved it, so did you. Setting up the punch table and serving at church dinners all dressed up.
Calling to say you were coming for coffee and cookies… you and Matt discussing everything under the sun,and much about God and the Bible. Sitting on the porch on warm evenings watching the stars and fireflies…..watching ” Facing the Giants” with us on DVD. Proudly showing us your latest knife creations and sconces. Bringing Matt a barrel of ashes with a cover you made that said ” Matt’s ashes”, which garnered some laughs. Friday evening fish dinners @ Key Largo. Taking you to Du Bois for dinner.
Getting the call to the E.R. when you fell from the top step of the ladder,( miraculously you had no broken bones ) & also when you cut the tip of your finger off and then bringing you home. We were getting to be frequent guests there. Eddie finding your finger tip at your request. Ed said “Sam is the coolest.” You explained how you went into paratrooper mode when you found yourself falling, which is what saved you from much damage. The day you mistakenly used kerosene in the mower. Our mechanic friend finally figured out why the mower wouldn’t start.
You promised to burn the very large brush pile left by the previous occupant. One morning Matt looked out the window and saw 30 ft high flames across the creek. In a panic he raced for the hose and a phone, but found it was you keeping your promise. Whew ! When you finished there was scarcely a small bucket of cinders left.
So much more that’s funny, and sad that it would take a book. You didn’t just exist, you lived, loved, cared, and created. All earthly turmoil is behind you now. One day we WILL meet again in the Kingdom of the Good Shepherd, where no shabby human purposes, nor the powers of hell can conspire to prevent it. God’s Word promises He will wipe away every tear, and there will be nothing to harm you in all His Holy Mountain. We can only imagine the inestimable light you see now. Rest well and joyfully in the arms of your Savior dear friend. Until then, know that we love you.

I will miss your kindness and love that you showed to me from day one. How you immediately made me feel like family I will miss your stories, and our walks around the property. I will miss how you always had something positive to say when I was down. I will miss being able to hug you, though I am glad you are free of pain. Until we meet again……….. Xoxo

I only knew sam on occasion, at gun shows in the region. I purchased 2 knives from him and was astonished by his craftsmanship. Every person that sees his work strapped to my belt, is regaled with the story of our meeting, as I boast his metal’s strength. It saddens me to hear a true artisan is gone.. he is missed.
